A one-day mountain-appreciation event at the foot of the Central Alps, built around a smartphone stamp rally and an alphorn concert.
Overview
Shinshu Mountain Day (信州山の日) is a Nagano Prefecture observance encouraging people to enjoy and look after the mountains. Komagane City has hosted its own edition at Komagane Farms since 2024; the 2026 event was the third.
Komagane Farms sits at the gateway to the Central Alps, next to the bus stop for the Komagatake Ropeway. It houses a souvenir shop, the Suzuran House dairy, a farm produce direct-sales stand and a tourist information desk, so it works as a stop even outside event days.
The 2026 edition doubled as the 30th anniversary of Komagane Farms and the 150th anniversary of Nagano Prefecture.
When and Where
The 2026 event was held on Sunday 26 July, from 10:00 to 16:00, with the digital stamp rally running 09:00 to 15:00. Previous editions were held on 27–28 July 2024 and 27 July 2025, all at the same venue.
The venue address is 759-447 Akaho, Komagane City, Nagano Prefecture. Dates for 2027 have not been announced; the event has fallen in late July each year so far.
What to Expect
The programme is small-scale and family-oriented rather than a large festival.
- The headline activity is the Komagane Kogen digital stamp rally, joined via smartphone; a printed crossword is offered to visitors without one.
- Alphorn Komagane performs live — a fitting sound for a venue below the Central Alps.
- A photo exhibition shows Central Alps and satoyama landscapes.
- The Kami-Ina Regional Development Bureau runs an information booth.
- Nagano’s PR mascot Arukuma and Komagane’s mascot Komakappa appear for photo sessions.
Tickets and Admission
No admission fee is stated on the official announcement. Individual activities and food purchases are paid separately.
The stamp rally requires a smartphone with data connectivity; a paper alternative is provided.
Tips for Visitors
- Combine the visit with the Komagatake Ropeway — the bus stop for it is right beside the venue, and the ride reaches 2,612 m at Senjojiki Cirque.
- Buy ropeway and bus tickets early in the morning in summer; queues at Sugadaira Bus Center build quickly.
- Mountain weather changes fast even in July; bring a windproof layer if you plan to go up.
- The Suzuran House dairy counter at Komagane Farms is a reliable stop for local soft-serve.
