Overview
The Ohmon Hikiyama Matsuri is the autumn festival of the Daimon district of Imizu, on the plain between Takaoka and Toyama. Four hikiyama floats are pulled through the town, decorated as hanayama with flower hats during the day and converted into lantern floats for the evening.
Toyama has many float festivals, but this one is defined by its setting: the floats crossing the river with the 3,000-metre Tateyama range on the horizon is the image the town is known for.

The 2026 festival is on Sunday 11 October. The floats tour the town during the day and continue after dark as lantern floats.
Nearest station: Ohmon, on the Ainokaze Toyama Railway.
Getting there
Ohmon is about 10 minutes from Takaoka and 20 minutes from Toyama on the Ainokaze Toyama Railway. Both cities are on the Hokuriku Shinkansen, so the festival is an easy add-on to a Kanazawa or Toyama trip. Roads around the route are restricted during the festival, so take the train.

Tickets and admission
Free to watch. There is no seating; spectators line the route and gather at the bridge for the crossing. Check the timetable locally, as the crossing happens at a set point in the day.
Tips for visitors
Aim to be at the Daimon Bridge for the crossing and stay into the evening for the lantern conversion – the two together are worth the trip. Clear weather makes the difference here, since the mountains are the whole point of the view. Nearby Shinminato is a good lunch stop for Toyama Bay seafood.
