Around 3.5 million tulips in 300 varieties carpet a Toyama park in colour every Golden Week.
Overview
The Tonami Tulip Fair is one of Japan’s largest and longest-running flower festivals, filling Tonami Tulip Park in Toyama with about 3.5 million tulips across some 300 varieties. Running through the Golden Week holidays, it features vast outdoor flower beds, ground designs best seen from the park tower, and indoor displays. Marking its 75th edition in 2026, it is a spring highlight of the Hokuriku region.
When & Where
The 2026 fair runs from Wednesday 22 April to Tuesday 5 May at Tonami Tulip Park in Tonami City, Toyama. The park is open daily from 9:00 to 17:30, with last admission at 17:00. It sits a short distance from central Tonami. Nearest station: Tonami Station on the JR Johana Line, about a 15-minute walk away.
Getting There
From Toyama or Shin-Takaoka (on the Hokuriku Shinkansen), transfer to the JR Johana Line for Tonami Station, then walk roughly 15 minutes to the park. By car, it is about 5 minutes from the Tonami interchange on the Hokuriku Expressway, with seasonal parking available. Golden Week is busy, so use trains where possible and arrive early.
What to Expect
Highlights include sweeping tulip fields, a large ground-level flower mosaic viewed from the observation tower, a tulip gallery with rare and forced blooms, and seasonal moss-phlox and other spring flowers. There are food stalls, garden displays and family areas. The layout and colours change through the fair as different varieties peak.
Tickets & Access
Admission is charged: adults are around 1,300 yen in advance or 1,500 yen at the gate, and children enter free. Tickets are sold at the gate and via advance channels; check the official site for the latest pricing and any timed-entry arrangements during Golden Week.
Tips for Visitors
Visit on a weekday morning to avoid the heaviest Golden Week crowds and to see beds at their freshest. Climb the tower for the ground-design view, and bring sun protection for the open fields. Toyama’s glass art museum and Takaoka’s temples make good add-ons.
