Hiroshima’s Peace Boulevard closes to traffic for three days of parades, stage shows and a towering Tower of Flowers.
Overview
Held every Golden Week, the Hiroshima Flower Festival turns the 100-metre-wide Peace Boulevard and Peace Memorial Park into the stage for one of western Japan’s biggest street celebrations. Over three days, thousands of dancers and performers parade past a landmark “Tower of Flowers” built from tens of thousands of blooms, and the event draws well over a million visitors. Founded in 1977, it carries an underlying message of peace alongside the music and colour.
When & Where
3–5 May 2026, along Peace Boulevard (Heiwa-odori) and around Peace Memorial Park, Naka-ku, Hiroshima. The programme runs during the daytime across all three days.
Getting There
From Hiroshima Station take a Hiroden tram or bus toward Chuden-mae or Kamiya-cho (about 15–20 minutes), then walk to Peace Boulevard. The city centre is compact and walkable, and trams are the easiest way to get around.
What to Expect
A 1.2-km flower parade with thousands of participants on 3 May, stage performances by hundreds of groups, dance troupes, marching bands and rows of food stalls. The Tower of Flowers is the signature photo spot, and the whole event is free and family-friendly.
Tickets & Access
Free to attend. Some stage seating may be reserved, but the parade and most events are open to all. The setting beside Peace Memorial Park makes it easy to combine with the Peace Memorial Museum and the A-Bomb Dome.
Tips for Visitors
Golden Week is peak season, so book Hiroshima accommodation early. Visit Peace Memorial Park in the morning and the festival in the afternoon, and expect crowded trams — walking between central sights is often faster.
